Woman Arrested For Falsely Accusing Man Of Assault To Avoid Date

Sumaya Thomas, an 18-year-old from North Liberty, Iowa, was arrested after allegedly calling 911 to falsely accuse her ex-boyfriend of threatening her, according to KCRG News. The incident took place just after midnight on June 16, when Thomas reported to police that her abusive ex-boyfriend was threatening her with violence.

Thomas claimed her ex-boyfriend threatened to punch, kick, hit, and stab her, and also stated she was pregnant with his child. When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a man leaving the area. The man informed police that he had met Thomas a week prior on a dating app, and they had been communicating through text messages.

The man was detained for over an hour while police investigated the allegations. He showed officers text message exchanges with Thomas, which helped corroborate his story and raised doubts about Thomas’ claims. Despite initially insisting that she had known the man for two years and that he had been abusive in the past, Thomas’ story began to fall apart under further scrutiny.

During a third interview with police, Thomas admitted that her accusations were false. She revealed that she felt anxious about meeting the man and decided she no longer wanted to go on the date, leading her to fabricate the story to avoid the encounter.

Thomas was arrested and charged with one count of making a False Report to 911 and two counts of False Report of an Indictable Offense to a Public Entity. The North Liberty Police Department has not yet responded to requests for additional comments on the case. This incident underscores the importance of truthfulness in reporting to emergency services, as false claims can have serious consequences for all parties involved.
