Ex-DNI James Clapper Stands by Letter on Hunter Biden’s Laptop

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who served under President Obama, has declared he will not retract his previous statement regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop. In 2020, Clapper, along with 51 other officials, signed a letter claiming that the laptop, famously dubbed the “laptop from hell,” was likely Russian disinformation.

When recently asked by Fox News if he would retract the letter, Clapper’s response was a firm “no.” This declaration comes amidst renewed scrutiny of the laptop’s contents during Hunter Biden’s ongoing legal troubles.

The laptop, initially dismissed by many media outlets as Russian disinformation, has resurfaced in the spotlight during Hunter Biden’s gun trial. Hunter is facing charges in Delaware related to a 2018 firearm purchase while he was allegedly using drugs. The charges were brought by Justice Department Special Counsel David Weiss and include three felony counts.

FBI Agent Erika Jensen, testifying during the trial, confirmed the authenticity of the laptop. According to NBC News, Jensen stated that the laptop contained evidence pertinent to the gun purchase investigation, contradicting the original claims of Russian disinformation.

The reemergence of the laptop story has reignited debates over the veracity of the initial claims made by Clapper and his colleagues. Despite the new developments, Clapper stands by his original assertion, refusing to withdraw his signature from the controversial letter.
