The widow of Corey Comperatore, the firefighter who was tragically killed during the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, has revealed that she turned down a phone call from President Joe Biden. Helen Comperatore stated that her husband, a staunch Republican, would not have wanted her to speak to Biden.
Helen Comperatore spoke with the New York Post on Monday, explaining her decision to refuse Biden’s call. “I didn’t talk to Biden,” she said. “I didn’t want to talk to him. My husband was a devout Republican, and he would not have wanted me to talk to him.”
Despite rejecting Biden’s call, Helen emphasized that she does not hold any ill will towards the President. “I don’t have any ill will towards Joe Biden. I’m not one of those people that gets involved in politics,” she noted. “I support Trump. That’s who I’m voting for, but I don’t have ill will towards Biden. He didn’t do anything bad to my husband. A 20-year-old despicable kid did.”
Corey Comperatore was praised for his bravery after his daughter, Allyson Comperatore, shared that he died protecting her and their family at the rally. “He shielded my body from the bullet that came at us. He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us,” Allyson wrote.
The incident occurred at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a gunman, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire. Crooks’ attack resulted in the death of Corey Comperatore and left two others seriously injured.
Helen’s decision to reject Biden’s call highlights the deep political divide and personal convictions held by many in the current political climate. While she supports Trump, she remains clear that her husband’s tragic death was the result of a senseless act by a disturbed individual, not political figures.
The assassination attempt on Trump has led to increased calls for enhanced security measures at political events and a closer examination of threats facing public figures. As the nation continues to grapple with political violence, the bravery and sacrifice of individuals like Corey Comperatore serve as a poignant reminder of the human cost of such acts.
