Former president and current GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump fired back at President Joe Biden during a Friday night campaign event over his divisive speech about the January 6 Capitol protests.
Commemorating the third anniversary of the protests, Biden gave a speech celebrating the imprisonment of hundreds of his political rival’s supporters — the majority of whom were nonviolent, and many of whom were locked up in solitary confinement without charge or trial for a significant period of time.
“Collectively to date, they have been sentenced to more than 840 years in prison,” Biden declared, prompting applause from the crowd in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, near Valley Forge.

Biden focused his entire speech on the protests and his likely 2024 rival, declaring Trump a “loser” and continuing to push the debunked narrative that all of the protesters on January 6 had committed an “insurrection.”
“What’s Trump done? Instead of calling them criminals, he’s called these insurrectionists ‘patriots’ … and he promises to pardon them if he returns to office,” Biden said. “Trump said they’re was a lot of love on January 6. The rest of the nation, including law enforcement, saw a lot of hate and violence.”
Trump slammed Biden for his divisive speech during his campaign rally on Friday night in Sioux City, Iowa — calling it a “pathetic fearmongering campaign event” and declaring that “Joe Biden’s record is an unbroken streak of weakness, incompetence, corruption, and failure.”

Trump also called out Biden in a statement to Fox News Digital after the event, arguing that the president and his administration are the “true threat to democracy.”
“Joe Biden is the worst president in the history of the United States — he is incompetent, he is crooked, and in many respects, he is Benedict Arnold,” he added. “He is destroying our country like no one else has done before.”
Trump went on to slam Biden for his claims about the so-called “insurrection,” arguing that the real insurrection taking place in the United States is Biden’s border crisis.
“The only insurrection is the insurrection that is taking place at our border where he is allowing millions of people from parts unknown to invade our country at a level far worse than even a military invasion,” he wrote.
