Trump Says He Would Offer Elon Musk A Cabinet Role ‘If He Would Do It’

President Donald Trump indicated that he would welcome Elon Musk into his administration, offering the tech billionaire a Cabinet position or advisory role. During an interview Monday, Trump praised Musk’s intelligence and suggested he would bring him on board “if he would do it.” Musk has been a vocal supporter of Trump, and the former president’s remarks might further solidify their alliance.

“He’s a very smart guy,” Trump said in his interview. “I certainly would, if he would do it, I certainly would. He’s a brilliant guy.” Trump’s comments come after a recent conversation with Musk on the social media platform X, where the two discussed various issues.

Musk has hinted at backing Trump financially, although he later publicly denied any direct contribution. However, he has admitted to donating to the America PAC, a political action committee that supports Trump’s campaign.

In the same interview, Trump took aim at the $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicles, a stance that could create some tension considering Musk’s leadership of Tesla, a leading electric car manufacturer. “Tax credits and tax incentives are not generally a very good thing,” Trump stated, although he remained noncommittal on whether he would fully remove the credit if elected.

Trump also shared his vision for incentivizing foreign automakers to produce cars in the U.S., emphasizing job creation and domestic manufacturing. “We’re going to give incentives, and if China and other countries want to come here and sell cars, they’re going to build plants here and hire our workers,” he said.
