Trump Nominee Pete Hegseth Under Attack Over Rehashed Allegation

It’s a shame that Pete Hegseth, President Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense, is being attacked over a sexual misconduct allegation that has already been thoroughly investigated and cleared. The Monterey Police Department found no evidence to support the claim, yet the allegation is being rehashed and used to target Hegseth, an action that undermines the integrity of the nomination process.

Vanity Fair published a report last week that reignited this long-dismissed claim, citing anonymous sources within the Trump transition team. According to the report, Trump’s incoming Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, was briefed on the allegation involving Hegseth. The report also suggested that the allegation was serious enough for Hegseth to meet with Trump’s legal team. Hegseth, however, continues to deny the accusation, describing the incident as consensual.

Hegseth’s lawyer, Timothy Parlatore, was quick to remind the public that the Monterey Police Department had investigated the matter and found no evidence to support the claim. Yet, the media continues to give credence to an allegation that has already been debunked. Why is this claim being given new life? It is hard to ignore the possibility that someone within the Trump transition team is deliberately leaking this information to undermine Hegseth.

The leaks are damaging not only to Hegseth’s reputation but also to the transition process itself. The fact that this baseless claim is being revived and widely reported suggests that there are forces within the transition team that are actively working against the president’s nominee. The real issue here is not the allegation, but the attempt to use it to derail a well-qualified candidate.

Adding fuel to the fire, The Washington Post reported that Hegseth allegedly paid the accuser in 2023 while still maintaining his innocence. These new leaks are designed to create doubt and stir controversy, despite the fact that the original investigation found no wrongdoing. This is political sabotage at its worst.

It is time for the Trump administration to identify the source of these leaks and put an end to the campaign against Hegseth. These attacks must stop, and the focus should return to Hegseth’s qualifications and experience, not a baseless and discredited allegation.
