President Donald Trump called former Vice President Dick Cheney “irrelevant” after Cheney endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
In a post on TRUTH Social, Trump criticized Cheney as a “RINO” and accused him of being responsible for the “endless, nonsensical wars” that marked his time in office. Trump also took the opportunity to mock Cheney’s daughter, Rep. Liz Cheney, for her overwhelming loss in the 2022 Congressional elections.
Cheney endorsed Harris on Friday, explaining that he felt it was necessary to put the country’s interests above partisan loyalty. “As citizens, we have a duty to defend our Constitution,” Cheney said. His decision to back Harris over Trump has sparked controversy within Republican circles, with some seeing it as a betrayal of party values.
Trump, however, remains focused on his message of peace, declaring that he is the only candidate capable of stopping World War III. By branding himself as the “Peace President,” Trump is doubling down on his opposition to foreign interventions, a stance that contrasts sharply with Cheney’s legacy.
The rift between Trump and Cheney reflects the broader ideological battle within the Republican Party, with Cheney representing the old guard and Trump embodying the populist, anti-establishment movement that has reshaped the GOP.
