Trump And Biden Duel At Southern Border Over Security Issues

During a trip to the southern border in Texas alongside Gov. Abbott (R-TX) on Thursday, former President Donald Trump claimed Biden is “destroying our country” with his loose border policy. The GOP frontrunner made the border visit in Eagle Pass, Texas, as President Joe Biden was 300 miles away in Brownsville, Texas, made his respective border visit.

The two butted heads in their visits, each casting the blame on one another. In a speech, President Biden blamed Trump alongside Republicans in Congress for blocking a bill pushed forward by Democrats, claiming they needed to “show a little spine.”

He claimed that Republicans and Democrats initially supported the bill until the New York businessman came along and swayed opinions away from it.

“I understand my predecessor is in Eagle Pass today,” Biden remarked. “So here’s what I would say to Mr. Trump. Instead of playing politics with the issue, instead of telling members of Congress to block this legislation, join me. Or I’ll join you in telling the Congress to pass this bipartisan border security bill.”

While Biden attempted to shift blame away from himself and his administration, the former president held no punches when discussing the immense damage the aging president has done on border security.

“The United States is being overrun by the Biden migrant crime,” Trump stated. “He’s destroying the country.”

During his tenure in office, the former president made significant strides to strengthen security along the southern border. He faced immense criticism from Democrats for doing so which prompted the current president to roll back nearly every measure put in place to protect the border.

As Pew Research noted, Biden pushed forth a proposal to allow millions of unauthorized immigrants a pathway to citizenship which then led to record numbers of illegals crossing the southern border.

Now, after the disastrous policies heavily hurting border security, he’s having to walk back to appeal to upset citizens dealing with the results of his incompetence. The president has seen pressure mounting from Republican, Democrat, and Independent voters to change course on the southern border.

Trump pointed to exactly that when speaking in Eagle Pass. He claimed that “the blood of countless, innocent victims” is on Biden’s hands.

Gov. Abbott also spoke alongside the former president, claiming that the Democrat president “does not care about either Texas or the border.”

“President Trump showed that when he was in office, he was able to secure the border,” Abbott stated. “And I know that when he is reelected president, our border will once again be secured.”

The Texas governor also shared that the state will “continue to bus those migrants to sanctuary cities” until “Joe Biden steps up and does his job.”
