Top Aide To NY Governors Arrested For Alleged Ties To Chinese Communist Party

Linda Sun, a former aide to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was arrested for allegedly working as an undisclosed agent for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The arrest came after the FBI conducted a raid on the Long Island home she shares with her husband, Christopher Hu.

Sun, 41, faces serious charges, including violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, and money laundering conspiracy. Her husband, Hu, 40, has been charged with money laundering conspiracy and bank fraud. According to federal authorities, the couple laundered millions of dollars on behalf of the Chinese government, which they used to acquire luxury properties and vehicles.

The indictment alleges that Sun used her role in the New York state government to prevent representatives from Taiwan from meeting with state officials while facilitating meetings for Chinese government officials. The couple reportedly used their illicit gains to purchase a $4.1 million home on Long Island, a $2.1 million condo in Hawaii, and a 2024 Ferrari.

U.S. Attorney Breon Peace stressed the seriousness of the allegations, noting that Sun and her husband exploited their positions to further the interests of the CCP. Following the discovery of Sun’s illegal activities, Gov. Hochul’s administration dismissed her in March 2023 and has fully cooperated with the investigation.

This arrest underscores the ongoing risks of foreign influence within U.S. government institutions and the importance of strict enforcement to protect national security.
