The Texas GOP is launching a formal investigation following reports that Democrats may be registering noncitizens to vote outside Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices in several locations.
The allegations, which surfaced on social media, claim that voter registration drives were set up at DMVs in Weatherford and Fort Worth, with reports indicating that immigrants were being registered without proper checks on their citizenship status.
Parker County GOP Chairman Brady Gray vowed to investigate, expressing concerns that these registration efforts could be part of a broader strategy to influence the upcoming election. Gray said he has been flooded with messages from residents alarmed by the claims and indicated that his office is already gathering information. “Democrats are intentionally trying to circumvent law to steal elections,” Gray stated.
Tarrant County GOP Chairman Bo French also raised the alarm, calling the situation “beyond troubling” and urging state leaders to take action. French called for implementing stricter voter ID laws and demanded that Gov. Greg Abbott (R), Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R), and Attorney General Ken Paxton step in to prevent illegal voting.
Paxton, who shared the original claims on social media, later issued a statement promising a full investigation and severe legal consequences for anyone involved in illegal voter registration.
The allegations come amid broader concerns among conservatives that voter registration laws are being exploited to allow noncitizens to participate in elections, potentially shifting outcomes in key races. As the investigation moves forward, it’s likely to spark further debate over election integrity in Texas.
