Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Kamala Harris has led to a dramatic drop in her popularity, particularly among Republican and independent voters. According to an NBC News poll, Swift’s favorability rating has decreased from 40% to 33% since last year, with a sharp increase in negative opinions among conservative voters.
In 2023, only 26% of Republicans viewed Swift unfavorably. That number has now risen to 47%. The same poll shows that just 12% of Republicans have a positive opinion of Swift, down from 28% last year. The backlash has been swift, with many conservatives criticizing Swift for aligning herself with a politician as polarizing as Kamala Harris.
Swift’s endorsement of Harris came as the vice president continues to face scrutiny over her handling of critical issues, including the border crisis and drug-related deaths. Harris’ policies have been blamed for worsening the fentanyl crisis in America, and many conservatives view her leadership as weak and ineffective.
Swift’s endorsement has not only alienated Republicans but also affected her standing with independents. Just 26% of independents now view her favorably, compared to 34% in 2023. Despite encouraging her fans to vote according to their own beliefs, Swift’s public support for Harris has been seen as a strategic political move aimed at influencing the 2024 election.
Democrats may appreciate Swift’s support, but even among her Democratic fans, her popularity saw only a modest rise, from 53% to 58%. The endorsement has done little to sway the broader electorate, with polls consistently showing that most voters are indifferent to celebrity endorsements.
