Suspect Arrested In Shocking Strangulation, Assault On Bronx Street

Following a disturbing incident captured on camera, a suspect has been apprehended in connection with a violent assault in the Bronx.

Kashaan Parks, 39, was taken into custody on Saturday after a video surfaced depicting the harrowing assault that occurred on May 1 in Melrose, near Courtland Avenue. The footage shows the assailant, identified as Parks, approaching a 45-year-old woman, lassoing her with a belt-like object, and dragging her unconscious body between two cars before perpetrating the assault, as reported by the New York Post.

Law enforcement authorities confirmed that the victim was hospitalized and later released after receiving treatment for her injuries. Prompted by the circulating video, police swiftly moved to arrest Parks, who now faces multiple charges including assault, strangulation, public lewdness, and harassment.

Despite the arrest, residents in the neighborhood remain on edge, with concerns about safety lingering in the community. Christina Torres, a neighbor of the victim, expressed fear and unease, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance.

Meanwhile, Beverly Parks, the mother of the accused, has spoken out about her role in facilitating her son’s surrender to authorities. Beverly revealed that she spent hours persuading her son to turn himself in after learning about the incident from his wife. She attributed her son’s recent struggles with drug addiction and grief over his father’s passing as contributing factors to his actions.

“I’m his mother that turned him in. I’m the one that facilitated him being arrested,” Beverly Parks, 56, told The New York Post.

“I found out about this yesterday morning at 5:12 am, and I’ve been trying to get my son to do the right thing ever since. And I did,” she said on Saturday.

“I had my son go be accountable for his actions, no matter that he was drunk, that he was on drugs, that he was grieving,” she continued, adding: “He did something wrong and he has to deal with it. Period.”

She noted that her son, who has a history of prior arrests, including for assaulting a woman in the Bronx and evading payment on public transportation, had previously relocated back to New York from North Carolina with his family.
