Supreme Court Extends Block On Texas Police Arresting Migrants

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday extended the prohibition, at least temporarily, on Texas law enforcement officers arresting illegal migrants. This action put the state power on hold as the legal battle over the right to protect Texas residents from the migrant invasion continues.

The notification was presented through a one-page order signed by Justice Samuel Alito. It barred the Lone Star State from enforcing the new immigration laws set to take effect this month.

President Joe Biden’s Justice Department argued that Texas is encroaching on federal immigration authority. But state officials, led by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, counter that the administration left Texas to fend for itself by abandoning its responsibility to protect the border.

Alito’s order marked the second time the conservative justice placed a pause on the law.

Monday’s Supreme court action that extended the stay on Texas officers fighting illegal migration was issued minutes after a self-imposed deadline of 5 p.m. This resulted in temporary confusion over the status of the high court order.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton argued his state’s new law mirrored federal statutes. He correctly declared that it was enacted to make up for the Biden administration’s abject failure to control the mass confusion at the southern border.

Paton explained the law “was adopted to address the ongoing crisis at the southern border, which hurts Texans more than anyone else.”

A federal judge in Texas struck down the state law last month. However, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals almost immediately stayed that ruling, which spurred the Biden administration’s appeal to the Supreme Court.

The battle between Texas and the Democratic White House continues to intensify as the state attempts to stem the tide of millions of illegal border crossers.

The Supreme Court struck down several parts of a similar Arizona law in 2012. Opponents smeared the effort to protect its citizens as a “show me your papers bill.”

The sharply divided court ruled that Washington’s failure to control the border could not translate into state intervention.

Many fellow Republicans now support Abbott’s efforts to secure his voters from the waves of unvetted illegals. Under Biden’s “leadership,” record numbers of migrants from every corner of the globe are pouring into the U.S.
