Putin Suggests Ukraine Conflict Could Have Been Avoided Under Trump

Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that the war in Ukraine may not have occurred if President Donald Trump had remained in office after the 2020 election. In an interview with Russian media, Putin suggested that Trump’s leadership could have prevented the situation from escalating into a full-scale conflict.

Putin described Trump as a pragmatic leader who understands how to negotiate effectively. He expressed confidence that, had Trump stayed in power, the United States would have approached the situation differently, potentially avoiding the crisis that erupted in 2022.

Despite Putin’s remarks, tensions between Russia and the West remain high. Russian officials have criticized the continued military assistance provided to Ukraine, arguing that Western nations are prolonging the war by supplying weapons and financial support.

President Donald Trump has been vocal about his belief that the war could have been prevented under his watch. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump warned of economic measures against Russia, including tariffs and sanctions, if a peace deal is not reached soon.

Ukraine responded by insisting that any negotiations regarding the conflict must include European nations. President Volodymyr Zelensky’s administration stressed that the war cannot be resolved through discussions limited to the US and Russia alone.

Russian authorities have previously stated that efforts to reach a peace agreement in the past were hindered by pressure from Western governments, which they claim influenced Ukraine’s stance on diplomatic talks.
