Poll: Most Americans Believe Southern Border Is In ‘Crisis’

As the November 2024 presidential election nears and the Biden administration tries to backtrack from its disastrous immigration policies, a recent survey indicates that most Americans believe the situation at the southern border is a “crisis” and an “invasion.”

A poll by Rasmussen Reports revealed that nearly 70% of Americans believe there is a “crisis” at the southern border, with 64% believing this unprecedented disaster is an “invasion.” The survey found that over 50% of Democrats believe the influx of illegal immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border is an “invasion.”

Regarding whether these issues reflect a national security concern, 71% of respondents agreed, while less than 20% disagreed, according to the National Pulse.

The survey comes as House Republicans prepare to submit articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who is facing impeachment for his role in the Biden administration’s allowance of millions of illegal immigrants to pour across the border, given its refusal to enact border security measures.

In February 2024, the House voted to impeach Mayorkas over the southern border crisis, marking the first time since 1876 that a Cabinet secretary was impeached by Congress.

In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), more than 40 Senate Republicans called for the chamber to hold an impeachment trial on Mayorkas.

The letter, led by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and 43 Republican senators, demanded “that the Senate uphold its constitutional responsibility to properly adjudicate the House of Representatives’ impeachment.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said she was “proud” to introduce impeachment articles against Mayorkas several times before House leadership took it up. The Georgia congresswoman called on Schumer to hold a trial in the Senate.

“I’m proud to have led the impeachment of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas,” Greene wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Impeaching Biden’s Secretary of Homeland has been the only accountability against the Biden border invasion. Schumer must hold the trial in the senate!”

In an op-ed for Fox News, Greene said that the charges levied against Mayorkas should be sufficient for the Homeland Security secretary to be convicted in the Senate.

“The seriousness of the charges should compel the Senate to perform its constitutional duty, conduct a full impeachment trial, convict Secretary Mayorkas, and ultimately remove him from office,” Greene wrote.
