NYC Teachers’ Union Boss’ Daughter Has $165K Job In Embattled City Agency

Meghan Mulgrew, the daughter of New York City teachers’ union president Michael Mulgrew, has secured a top-paying job in Mayor Eric Adams’ administration, earning $165,000 annually. Her role as a senior advisor in the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) has drawn suspicion amid an ongoing bribery investigation into the agency.

The investigation, led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, is looking into possible corruption within DCAS, which manages city properties and lease agreements. Meghan Mulgrew, who started working for the department in April 2023, reports directly to executive deputy commissioner Shameka Overton, who oversees Jesse Hamilton, the deputy commissioner for real estate services.

The probe intensified when phones belonging to Hamilton and Ingrid Lewis-Martin, Adams’ chief adviser, were confiscated upon their return from Japan. They had traveled with a top executive from Cushman & Wakefield, a firm involved in multi-million-dollar real estate deals with the city.

The revelation that Michael Mulgrew’s daughter holds a senior role in DCAS has fueled concerns about the investigation. As president of one of the city’s most influential unions since 2009, Michael Mulgrew’s connection to the Adams administration is under increased scrutiny.

Meghan Mulgrew’s job in an agency at the center of a corruption investigation adds another layer to the questions surrounding DCAS and its dealings. The investigation will continue as DA Bragg’s office looks into possible misconduct involving city officials and real estate firms.
