In what is her first win of the primary season, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley won Washington, D.C in a landslide victory against Donald Trump on Sunday.
Haley captured 62.9% of the vote to Trump’s 33.2%.
Helping her sail to victory were Democrat voters, as 6 out of 10 who voted in the primary cast their votes for Haley.
While the campaign celebrates their first win, it is not considered without irony by the Republican base, as Washington is considered to be the very beating heart of the “establishment swamp,” and Trump Republicans consider her to be a representative of its interests.
While mainstream media sources are praising Haley for being the first Republican woman to win a presidential primary, the win may perhaps be considered a Pyrrhic victory for Haley as it confirms her status as the candidate not wanted by mainstream Republican voters.
In truth, the win comes as no surprise, considering that Washington, D.C. is a stronghold for all things bureaucratic, big government, and deep state. That Trump managed to get even 33% of the vote there is shocking.
With Super Tuesday fast approaching, rumors are already circulating that Haley is canceling all ads and appearances related to this year’s presidential election.

Trump is expecting major wins on Super Tuesday, with 15 states holding GOP primaries. This will be a breaking point for the Haley campaign, as numerous delegates are at stake. Haley is no longer promising to endorse Donald Trump for president if he wins the nomination.
At this stage, it seems inevitable that after Tuesday, the 2024 presidential campaign will finally be able to turn its focus on the match-up between Donald Trump and Joe Biden in November.
However, even that match-up is not a sure bet. Many Democrats are openly questioning Joe Biden’s capacity to remain in office, let alone continue being president for another four years.
While both Trump and Biden are elderly, age affects people differently and some decline faster or slower than others. Ronald Reagan, another elderly president, still had his wits about him when he left office. Joe Biden, on the other hand, regularly has cognitive mishaps and many believe he is in advanced stages of dementia.
