Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) expressed his willingness to vote for President Biden over former President Trump, saying he would vote for Biden “in a heartbeat.”
Kinzinger, a vocal Trump critic, responded to a question from CNN’s Kaitlan Collins about his choice of candidate after Chris Christie, his preferred GOP candidate, withdrew from the race.
He stated that he considers a 2024 rematch between Biden and Trump “highly likely,” and in such a scenario, he says there is “no question” that he would back Biden.
“That’s not even a question I would have to wrestle with,” he said.
Kinzinger said, “It is literally a decision at that moment between ‘do you believe in a functioning democracy? Or do you not?’ And I think that’s the only thing on the ballot.”

Kinzinger, who was a member of the Jan. 6 Committee before leaving his congressional office, asserted that Trump has demonstrated a lack of concern for the U.S. Constitution. He argued that the former president consistently engages in constant complaints and portrays himself as a perpetual victim.
The former legislator expressed that America is weary and cannot endure such a situation for another four years. While he may not see eye to eye with Biden on all matters, in a hypothetical matchup between Trump and Biden in the November election, Biden would secure Kinzinger’s vote because he believes Biden does not harbor animosity toward democracy.
He stated, “I believe in America way more than I believe in the Republican Party. I don’t really believe in the Republican Party at the moment.”
Nevertheless, Kinzinger clarified that he has no plans to actively campaign for the Democratic Party and is optimistic that fellow Republican contender Nikki Haley will outshine the former president in New Hampshire.
Kinzinger said, “I hope Nikki wins New Hampshire. I hope that leads to some momentum, anything to beat Donald Trump.”
Haley has been steadily gaining ground on Trump in New Hampshire, as indicated by the latest data from the Decision Desk HQ/The Hill poll aggregate. At present, the former president holds 42% support, while Haley is close behind with 30.9%. With Chris Christie exiting the race, it’s expected that polling figures may fluctuate in the days ahead.
