Joe Biden was handed his first loss of the 2024 primary race by a candidate almost no one had heard of before Tuesday, according to the Daily Wire.
Though Biden won the great majority of the Democratic primary contests that took place on Super Tuesday, Jason Palmer won the caucuses in the U.S. territory of American Samoa.
Palmer garnered 56% of the vote, while Biden lagged with 44%. Four delegates went to the winner and two to Biden, the loser.
Fox News’ Chad Pegram announced the upset: “Fox projects that Biden loses the American Samoa Democratic Caucus to Jason Palmer. He is a self-described entrepreneur and investor. This is Biden’s first loss in the 2024 primaries. Palmer gets 4 delegates. Biden: 2.”

A Baltimore resident, Palmer has worked for various businesses and nonprofits on technology and education issues, according to the Associated Press.
Palmer has reportedly loaned his campaign more than $500,000 because wants “someone who is more of the 21st century than Joe Biden” to be president.
Fox News anchor Bret Baier read from an alert as it came in, “We just have a call now in American Samoa. President Biden will lose to Jason Palmer, a self-described entrepreneur and investor.”

“He is going to win the American Samoa Democratic caucus,” Baier continued. “This marks President Biden’s first loss in the 2024 primaries.
Baier paused briefly and then said, “I don’t even know who Jason Palmer is. But he is now the winner.”
Rival progressive outlet CNN was taken off guard as well. They posted a graphic with photos of Biden and presidential hopeful Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), but a generic face for Palmer.

In an interview on Tuesday, Palmer said, “I found out that I had won because my phone started blowing up with friends and campaign staffers texting me,” according to AP.
Having never visited American Samoa before the caucus Palmer won the race by “campaigning remotely, doing Zoom town halls, talking to people, listening to them about their concerns and what matters to them.”
Though residents of U.S. territories do vote in primaries, they do not have representation in the Electoral College.
The loss may be inconsequential to the Biden election team on a practical level, but it is symbolic. It only takes a straw to break a camel’s back.
