Islamist Regime In Syria Launches Campaign Against Christians And Alawites

Syria’s Christian and Alawite communities are under siege as Islamist militants, now in control of the government, carry out mass executions. In the past few days alone, more than 1,800 people have been killed, with survivors warning that the violence is only getting worse.

The downfall of Assad’s regime in December created a power vacuum quickly filled by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an Al Qaeda-linked group. By January, the new government had taken full control, with Ahmed al-Sharaa installed as interim president. Soon after, reports of massacres targeting Christians and Alawites began to surface.

Eyewitness accounts detail a wave of brutality sweeping across Christian regions. Armed groups have stormed villages, slaughtering men, women and children. Churches have been burned, priests executed and homes looted. In Latakia, one of the last Christian strongholds, residents have been forced into the mountains in a desperate attempt to escape.

Despite overwhelming evidence of targeted killings, world leaders have offered no meaningful response. The United Nations issued a general statement about violence in Syria but made no mention of the mass execution of Christians. Western media has downplayed the situation, focusing instead on broader political developments.

Israel, which has the means to assist, has remained silent. Despite previous warnings about Islamist groups taking control in Syria, Israeli officials have not acted to stop the killings or protect those under attack. Requests for military support and humanitarian aid have gone unanswered.

As the massacres continue, Syria’s Christian population faces an uncertain future. Without intervention, the communities that have survived for centuries may soon be erased entirely.
