Independent Candidate Cornel West Alleges Harris Campaign Tried To Buy Him Out Of 2024 Race

Independent presidential candidate Cornel West has leveled serious accusations against Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign, claiming they attempted to bribe him to drop out of the 2024 election. West revealed during a podcast interview with Status Coup News that the Harris campaign offered him a prominent government position and a promise to pay off his campaign debts in exchange for his withdrawal from the race.

West, a key figure in progressive politics, has caused concern within the Democratic Party as polls show that his presence on the ballot in swing states could divert votes from Harris, potentially aiding President Donald Trump’s re-election bid. Despite the pressure, West has refused to back down.

West recounted how Harris campaign staffers approached him, urging him to join forces with Harris, presenting it as a pivotal moment for Black Americans. However, West dismissed their offers, emphasizing that he was not interested in their promises of positions or resources. “That’s not what I’m all about,” West said during the interview.

When questioned by the podcast host about whether a specific role in Harris’s administration was offered, West hinted at substantial discussions but did not provide further details. If West’s claims are accurate, they could pose significant ethical concerns for the Harris campaign as the election approaches.

West has secured a place on the ballot in key battleground states, including Wisconsin, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. A recent ruling by a Michigan judge also ensured that West would appear on the ballot in that state. These developments recall past controversies, such as the alleged attempt by Democrats to pressure Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) out of a Senate race during the Obama administration.
