Illinois Family Targeted In Mexico Attack, Two Dead, Teen Critical

Two Americans from Illinois were killed and a teenager left in critical condition after a violent shooting near Las Palmas, Mexico. The victims were traveling in an SUV when the ambush occurred on Friday, with the two Americans identified as Vicente Peña Rodríguez and Antonio Fernández Rodríguez. Local resident Jorge Eduardo Vargas Aguirre also died in the attack.

The teenage son of Peña Rodríguez, who was part of the group, sustained severe injuries and is now in a medically induced coma. Family members revealed that the trip was meant to be a birthday celebration for the boy, but it quickly became a nightmare.

Vicente Peña, the grandfather of the injured teen, described the attack as a “massacre.” He said both his son and other family members were shot multiple times. Peña is now dealing with the trauma of losing loved ones while hoping his grandson can recover.

The family is currently working to get the teenager transferred to the U.S. for medical treatment, but the move is delayed due to concerns about his condition. Advocates are pushing for quicker action.

As authorities continue to investigate the attack, many Americans are left questioning the safety of traveling to certain parts of Mexico. There has been no word from the U.S. government regarding increased travel advisories or assistance for the family.
