The House Oversight Committee has initiated an investigation into Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) over his extensive connections to China, including a student exchange program allegedly funded by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) announced the probe following reports detailing the governor’s longstanding relationships with CCP entities and officials.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) expressed concern about the investigation’s findings, stating, “Governor Walz’s numerous trips to China and involvement with CCP-linked organizations raise serious questions about potential foreign influence. We need full transparency on these connections.”
Key points of the investigation include:
- Walz’s reported 30 visits to China
- His fellowship at a Chinese institution with CCP ties
- Speeches alongside officials from CCP-linked organizations
- A student exchange program allegedly funded by the CCP
The committee has requested information from FBI Director Christopher Wray regarding CCP-connected entities and officials with whom Walz has engaged.
Critics have raised concerns about Walz’s apparent warmth toward China, including comparisons he allegedly made between the Tiananmen Square massacre and historical U.S. events.
The probe also aims to examine the presence of a reported Chinese “secret police station” in the Twin Cities and its potential links to Walz-affiliated organizations.
As the investigation unfolds, it’s likely to fuel debates about foreign influence in U.S. politics and the extent of China’s reach into American institutions.
