Gov. Noem Stands With Gov. Abbott’s Defiance After Ruling

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) went on Fox News Thursday to once again show her support for Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who continues to install razor wire and other barriers around the U.S.-Mexico border despite the Supreme Court’s ruling to have it removed, as he is still waiting for the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to make a decision on February 7.

While speaking with Martha MacCallum, Noem supported Abbott’s use of razor wire and other barriers to deter illegal immigrants from crossing the border.

“Governor Abbott has done the exact right thing,” Noem told MacCallum. “And I’ll drive him more razor wire from South Dakota if I have to for him to do his job.”

Noem’s remarks come after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Biden administration on Monday, voting 5-4 to allow federal agents to remove the razor wire along the border and said that the Texas National Guard cannot block federal agents from the border.

Defying the ruling, Abbott continues to place razor wire along the border and has ordered the Texas National Guard to deny access to federal agents. He defended his actions on Wednesday, stating that he is protecting his state from an “invasion.”

“What people forget is that governors are commanders-in-chief. We’re responsible for the men and women of our National Guard,” she said. “It’s a heavy responsibility that weighs on our shoulders. And so we never engage our National Guard soldiers unless it’s incredibly important and if we feel we have the constitutional authority to do it.”

Noem is one of the 25 governors who supports Abbott’s defending of the border. She has been one of Abbott’s biggest allies in the fight to secure the border, stating that the Biden administration has stood by and done nothing and that they must stand together to protect the country.

“The inhumanity of the Biden policies is destroying America, and I’d never thought in my life that I could see a country change as fast as it has,” said Noem. “So it is time that we stand shoulder to shoulder and we stand up now to make sure we protect the future of this country.”

Three years ago, she was the first governor to assist Texas in its fight against illegal immigration by deploying her National Guard soldiers to the border. She also deployed them again last summer to stand with Texas.

Noem made a trip to the southern border Friday, conducting a boat tour with the Texas National Guard and the Texas Department of Public Safety. She stated that if former President Donald Trump wins the election, she would do anything she could to assist him in securing the border.
