FBI Probes Drone Activity Across Hunterdon County And New Jersey

The FBI is investigating drone sightings in Hunterdon County and other parts of New Jersey, according to an announcement from Hunterdon County Sheriff Fred Brown’s office on Wednesday. The sightings, which include prolonged hovering over homes and groups of drones flying together, have raised alarms about safety and security.

Hunterdon County Commissioner John Lanza, who is the liaison to the Sheriff’s Office and Department of Public Safety, described the reports as troubling. “Drones are considered aircraft, and airspace is strictly regulated by the FAA,” Lanza said. He has requested public updates on the progress of the investigation.

The sheriff’s office warned residents about the potential risks posed by unauthorized drone operations, emphasizing threats to privacy, public safety, and national security. Residents were advised not to approach downed drones but to notify authorities immediately if they encounter one.

Officials noted that improper drone use can lead to serious consequences, particularly in areas with sensitive infrastructure or dense populations. The FBI investigation aims to identify the source of the drones and ensure compliance with federal regulations.

Lanza emphasized the need for vigilance and encouraged residents to report unusual drone activity. “This is an issue that impacts all of us, and it’s critical that we address it promptly and thoroughly,” he said.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement is working to understand the scope of the activity and its implications for public safety. Residents are encouraged to remain alert and assist authorities by reporting any suspicious incidents.
