Democrats Blast David Hogg Over Personal Use Of Its Contact List

Democratic officials are raising concerns over newly appointed DNC Vice Chair David Hogg’s use of party contact lists to solicit donations for his own political action committee (PAC) instead of for the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Although his actions do not violate party regulations, some leaders believe they are inappropriate.

Hogg, who co-founded Leaders We Deserve in 2023, has sent fundraising messages urging donations to his PAC. Financial records show that he has received more than $175,000 from the organization, including over $20,000 in December. His messages, sent to DNC contacts, did not encourage donations to the party but instead promoted his PAC.

In one of the messages, Hogg introduced himself as the new DNC Vice Chair and described his election as a victory for a “youthful, energetic” movement. The message directed recipients to a donation link for Leaders We Deserve.

Criticism from within the party has been sharp. A senior Democratic official described the move as “a stunning lack of judgment.” Another party leader questioned why Hogg was using his position for personal fundraising rather than focusing on the DNC’s financial needs.

Hogg, 24, first gained public attention after the 2018 Parkland, Florida school shooting and has since become an outspoken activist. His calls to defund law enforcement and dismantle ICE have made him a divisive figure, even within Democratic circles. Some party members were already uneasy about his leadership role, and this latest controversy has only heightened those concerns.

Cameron Kasky, a fellow Parkland survivor, expressed frustration over Hogg’s political influence. “I mean it’s just very frustrating to be in a party in desperate need of increased accountability for our struggling leadership, and watch someone who is never held accountable ascend to leadership,” Kasky said.

When reached for comment, Hogg declined to speak, but a spokesperson later stated that he has raised money for the DNC in addition to his personal PAC.
