With Kamala Harris now positioned as the Democratic presidential candidate, Democrats and their media allies are working diligently to revise the record of the Biden administration. Despite these attempts, the realities of President Joe Biden’s term are hard to forget for many Americans.
Harris, who played a major role in the administration, is now being promoted as a fresh candidate. However, her involvement in Biden’s policies means she shares the responsibility for their outcomes. The left-wing media is actively trying to create a more favorable narrative for her.
Several recent articles have praised Biden’s presidency. Slate, for instance, claimed that Biden achieved “full employment” and suggested that labor market gains compensated for rising household costs. This view is difficult to reconcile with the experiences of many Americans struggling with high inflation and economic hardship. According to a CNN poll, 39% of Americans worry their income won’t be enough to meet expenses, a concern that has grown since the Great Recession.
The Columbus Dispatch’s assertion that Biden accomplished more good in four years than any president since Abraham Lincoln has also faced skepticism. Critics highlight significant issues during Biden’s term, including record inflation, a drop in the personal savings rate, and a national debt nearing $35 trillion. Under Biden, the U.S. debt was downgraded for the second time in history, reflecting fiscal mismanagement.
Illegal immigration remains another major concern. Reports suggest that the number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. doubled under Biden. Harris, initially designated to address the root causes of immigration, now sees media efforts to downplay her role as “border czar.” Earlier labels are being retracted in an effort to separate her from the administration’s immigration policies.
Despite these efforts, the economic struggles, immigration issues, and foreign policy missteps of the Biden administration are still vivid in the public’s mind. Harris’s connection to these policies presents a significant challenge as she campaigns for the presidency. Media narratives alone cannot erase the reality of the past four years, which many Americans continue to feel.
