Dakota Tom’s Cheeseburgers Recalled In 5 States Due To Listeria Risk

Consumers in North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Wyoming are being warned not to consume certain cheeseburgers from Dakota Tom’s Sandwiches due to concerns about potential Listeria contamination. The company announced on Friday that it is recalling its “Pepperjack Cheeseburger,” “Bacon Cheeseburger,” and “The Gambler” after its supplier, BrucePac, issued a broader recall of meat products.

BrucePac had previously recalled nearly 10 million pounds of meat due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious health issues. The total amount of recalled meat has now increased to 11.8 million pounds, according to recent reports.

Although no illnesses have been reported, customers are being advised to return the affected cheeseburgers for a full refund or discard them. The FDA has highlighted the risks associated with Listeria, noting that it can cause severe infections in vulnerable populations, including young children, the elderly and individuals with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women are particularly susceptible, as Listeria can result in miscarriage or stillbirth.

Healthy individuals may only experience mild symptoms such as fever, nausea and diarrhea, but the potential consequences of infection are severe enough that customers are being urged to take the recall seriously. BrucePac’s recall has raised concerns, especially given that some of the contaminated meat was distributed to schools.

The USDA has posted a list of the affected meats and poultry products, and consumers are encouraged to verify whether they have purchased any of the recalled items.
