California Cop Resigns After Becoming Trapped In Cruiser With Female Detainee

An officer from the San Diego Police Department has quit his job following an incident in which he became locked in the backseat of his patrol car with a woman he had arrested. The officer, Anthony Hair, resigned on Sept. 14, 2023, less than a month after the bizarre occurrence.

On Aug. 15, 2023, Hair was transporting the woman, who had been arrested on suspicion of car theft, to the Las Colinas Detention Center. During the drive, the conversation between the two turned inappropriate, with the woman asking Hair if he was single and making illicit comments.

Hair pulled over on a residential street near the jail and turned off his body camera. He then became trapped in the backseat with the woman for over an hour before calling a fellow officer for assistance.

During the investigation, Hair claimed that he was checking on the woman when the car door accidentally closed on him and that his body camera was turned off by accident. Both Hair and the woman denied any sexual interaction, but investigators found traces of semen on the officer’s belt.

The incident has raised questions about officer conduct and the handling of detainees in California. The San Diego Police Department released its internal investigation in compliance with state law, providing insight into the events that led to Hair’s resignation after just two years on the force.
