Bill Maher Challenges Media Over False Story On Trump And Liz Cheney

Comedian Bill Maher recently accused the media of spreading misinformation about President Donald Trump’s remarks on former Rep. Liz Cheney. During Real Time Overtime, Maher criticized outlets that suggested Trump called for Cheney to face a firing squad, calling it an outright lie.

Maher clarified that Trump’s comment was about Cheney’s support for military action, not a call for violence. Trump’s full statement, which Maher read on air, said, “Let’s put her with a rifle standing there.” Maher explained that Trump was making a point about the ease of sending young people into dangerous conflicts.

“This is what peace activists have always argued,” Maher said, adding, “I’m not defending Trump. Just don’t lie to me.” His comments were a call for media accountability, particularly when reporting on contentious figures like Trump.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who joined Maher in the segment, agreed that the media’s interpretation was misleading, despite his own criticisms of Trump. Raskin described the coverage as “ridiculous,” saying it detracts from serious issues.

Maher’s comments come amid growing frustration with media accuracy, particularly as recent economic reports show weak job creation outside of government jobs under the Harris-Biden administration. The controversy over Cheney’s comment raises concerns about the integrity of political coverage in the current media landscape.
