ActBlue Donations Under Scrutiny As Texas Investigation Uncovers Alleged Fraud

A Texas investigation into ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s online donation platform, has uncovered suspicious donations, according to Attorney General Ken Paxton. After nearly a year of investigating, Paxton is calling on the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to step in and create stricter regulations to prevent what he calls “straw donations.”

Paxton’s office discovered that prepaid credit cards were allegedly being used to hide the identities of donors, making it difficult to trace the source of the funds. Paxton claims this practice allows bad actors to exceed legal donation limits and funnel foreign money into American elections, bypassing existing campaign finance laws.

While ActBlue implemented a measure in August requiring CVV codes for credit card donations, Paxton says this is not enough to prevent fraud. He is urging the FEC to create new regulations to close the loopholes that have allowed these alleged straw donations to occur.

Paxton also expressed concern about the potential for foreign interference in U.S. elections if these issues are not addressed. The FEC is now under pressure to act on Paxton’s findings and secure the integrity of the country’s political donation system.
